Thank God It's Leapster!

Lucas's version of TGIF is T.G.I. Leapster. Leapster is a cool video console with tons of games. Think DS but educational. We've set a rule at home: he can't play with it during the weekday. Only weekends and for a few hours. This is our Leapster-themed bedtime conversation most Thursday nights.

Lucas: Is tomorrow friday?
Me: Yes.
Lucas: So then Saturday.
Me: yes.
Lucas: And then Sunday.
Me: Yes.
Lucas: Can I play Leapster after school on friday?
Me: That's tomorrow.
Lucas: Really?
Me: Yes.
Lucas: Yeah!
Me: Night Night Lucas.
Lucas: Night Night Papi.

Lights off.

Kids Understand Death.

In their own way, I think children understand the concept of death better than we think. My dad passed away recently and it's been tough on the whole family. We had a difficult time trying to explain to our kids that grandpa was no longer with us. Last week, my wife told them we were on our way to meet my mom (their grandma) for lunch. One of the twins, Grace, 2 years old, said, "And Grandpa too." My wife gently repeated that it was only Grandma. Grace insisted. Then Lucas, our 4 year old, chimed in from the back seat angrily, "No Grace, not Grandpa. He's up in heaven with God." It was a quiet ride to the restaurant after that.
